Intuitive Eating

I'm fairly certain I have done every "diet" that exists... I spent most of my formative years hyperventilating over not being thin enough, or tone enough, or tall enough or anything enough... After I had my kid, I spiraled for a while... feeling like that elusive "youth" that we all strive for was finally gone and my body was left pillowy and dimpled... It wasn't until I really reclaimed food as my friend and not as the enemy that things really started to turn around for me. When I started thinking of my body as a sacred vessel... that my soul chose to experience this human life in... that helped shift my perspective and how I nourished myself.

Intuitive eating has become buzzy lately... but what I mean by it is... listening to myself... utilizing my ancient wisdom (intuition) and fueling my body with things that feel good FOR ME. That won't be the same for everyone... and it shouldn't be. I eat what tastes good, feels good and brings me joy. If it makes me feel radiant, I eat it. If it doesn't... I choose not to. There are days when that is a big piece of chocolate cake and several glasses of wine... most days, it's pastured meats and lots of nourishing vegetables.

The biggest obstacle for me initially was cost. It seems that choosing organic produce and pastured meats meant my grocery bill was sometimes DOUBLE what it had previously been. After a few years of working on it... I have been able to make it work in my budget. I will spend $8 on a dozen pastured eggs, but skip that $20 bottle of wine. I shop sales, and I order all of my meat from a co-op which makes the price a fraction of grocery store prices.

Whatever that looks like for you and your family, remember... we live in a world that is constantly trying to sell you a diet... and so they're always trying to make you feel like your body needs to be different. It doesn't. It's beautiful and perfect exactly as it is. If you follow your intuition and nourish yourself in a way that feels good for you... it will also release you from the constant cycles of frustration with your body... which frees up more time for joy and fulfillment!
